Over 23 FAM trips with more than 360 wholesalers and travel agents from the top markets of origin and potential emerging markets visited the Riviera Nayarit during 2018 to experience its attractions for themselves.
The visitors came mainly from South America and Europe, though there were others from the destination’s natural markets—Mexico, the United States, and Canada. As for South America, the top countries sending visitors included Panama, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

There were 12 FAM trips held in the last three months of the year alone, most of them done with the support of Copa Airlines, the Panamanian airline that landed for the first time in the destination on December 16th. This alliance with the airline sought to strengthen sales of the PTY-PVR flight. The FAM trips were a success and resulted in immediate action by the wholesalers, who immediately reinforced the destination in their offers.
“The product offered by Bahía de Banderas has been a wonderful surprise for the South American market,” said Lucero Guerrero, sales and marketing manager for the Riviera Nayarit CVB. “The comments have been very positive in general and the destination surpassed most of the agents’ expectations.”

The FAM trips were the icing on the cake after the Copa Airlines’ inaugural flight, which brought over eight directors and executives from South America’s top wholesalers. The visitors later spent several days touring the region and returned home totally charmed.
“The support we’ve received from Copa Airlines has been crucial as it has opened the door to new markets that have now set their sights on our destination, precisely thanks to their business relationship with the airline,” said Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB). “Markets from Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, and Ecuador now have us on their radar and are strongly promoting the route.”

Of note is the fact the destination also received travel agent visitors from the United Kingdom and Holland with the purpose of reinforcing these markets.
“Though we already have two direct flights from Manchester and London with TUI as well as seats blocked on TUI Holland we’d like to continue to see the European market grow via commercial flight connectivity, so it’s important for us to continue to promote the Riviera Nayarit’s potential in these markets,” added Murphy.
