Riviera Nayarit to Host the 2012 Mexican Regatta Cup, Olympic Edition


Event headlines the Riviera Nayarit Nautical Extravaganza series of nautical events,
March 1-25, 2012

Riviera Nayarit, Mexico (November 30, 2011)Riviera Nayarit, Mexico’s newest destination with over 192 miles of pristine beaches, will host the 2012 Mexican Olympic Regatta Cup, March 2-19, 2012, on Banderas Bay in Riviera Nayarit. This event is the centerpiece for the second Riviera Nayarit Nautical Extravaganza which takes place every other year and features a full schedule of international and Mexican regattas, the Punta Sayulita Surf Classic and other competitions taking place March 1-26, 2012.

Events will be hosted at La Cruz deHuanacaxtle’s modern Marina Riviera Nayarit and the Vallarta Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta. The Nautical Extravaganza includes seven events for the Regatta Cup Mexico Olympic Edition, plus the 2012 editions of Race Vallarta from San Diego to Vallarta, Banderas Bay Regatta, and the Punta Sayulita Surf Classic.Marina Riviera Nayarit will be the official site for the Race Committee, registrations and the site of the social events and trophy presentations throughout the month

The Mexican Regatta Cup has been established as one of the most important international sailing events. Its prestigious sailing categories include MEXORC, a competition which takes place every two years throughout the ports and coasts of Mexico and will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2012. This year’s Mexican Cup has been entitled the Olympic Regatta Cup since it takes place shortly before the July 2012 London Olympic Games, providing a “warm up” for the world sailors who will be participating in the London Olympics.

The 2012 Regatta, together with the Nautical Extravaganza events, culminates with the start of theMexico Tourist Board’s Tourism Tianguis 2012, which will be held for the first time in 37 years in Riviera Nayarit and neighboring Puerto Vallarta.
