- Numbers from the Grupo Aeroportuario (GAP) show an increase of 42% in the number of operations in the air terminal as of the second half of December.
The Riviera Nayarit continues reactivating its domestic and international flights, adding more every day, placing the destination within reach of travelers from Mexico, the United States, Canada, and soon, the United Kingdom.
As of the second half of December, there was a 42% increase in the number of air terminal operations compared to the first half of the month, according to data from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP).
According to the report, to date a total of 16 airlines are flying to Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit, via the Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport. As of January 2021, the company TUI Airways (formerly known as Thomson Airways), will be joining in with its Manchester route, signaling the reconnection of this region with Europe.
TUI Airways is the third largest UK-based airline in terms of total number of passengers, and the largest charter airline in the world.
Charlotte-PVR/Riviera Nayarit flight resumes
As of December 26, American Airlines will resume operations on its Charlotte, North Carolina route, with a weekly frequency on Saturdays; this route is very important for the region as it opens the door to the South and East coasts of the United States.
Similarly, the U.S. airlines continue moving in a positive direction with 244 flights, almost double the number that arrived in the first half of the month. American, Delta, and United are the airlines showing a greater increase with 59, 45, and 88 frequencies, respectively, versus 35, 22, and 51 that were registered in the last two weeks.
Increased flights from Canada
The number of flights from Canada continues to increase as well at 17, two more than during the first half of December. West Jet is resuming its service from Winnipeg, with a frequency on Saturdays, as well as a frequency on its Vancouver route. As of December 26, the region will be connected to seven cities in Canada: Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto, Comox, and Winnipeg.
Canada is the second most important foreign market for Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit, after the United States. Every year, thousands of Canadians travel to this region to escape the intense winter cold, find here an enviable climate, the most beautiful beaches, safety, and, of course, a high quality hotel offer.
With respect to national airlines, through the first half of December they were operating 132 flights to the destination, increasing to 167 as of the second half. The Aerolitoral-Aeromexico alliance remains at the top with 47 frequencies, followed by Volaris and TAR, with 33 flights each.
