- As the days roll by in this so-called “New Normal,” hotels in this tourist destination welcome their guests with the most advanced health and safety protocols.
Booking a room in an unfamiliar hotel can often be a gamble. Will it really have the promised amenities, will it be quiet, will it be clean? The latter is especially important in the age of COVID-19 and is one of the main challenges facing hotel establishments in the country’s tourist destinations.
In Mexico, there are at least 10 destinations that have obtained the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Safe Travel Stamp. The Riviera Nayarit is one of them and the only one that is not a state or city; it received the Stamp at the beginning of June as a result of the creation of its Tourism Wellness and Best Practices Guide.
“These defined protocols equal the highest standard in health and hygiene, providing additional confidence and peace of mind for guests,” said Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau.
He added that establishing protocols to deal with the COVID-19 ensures the risk of contagion is reduced; and although it is true that some hotel chains obtained the WTTC Stamp on their own, all associated hotels have been authorized to display this distinction as they comply with the hygiene, disinfection, and physical distancing standards and even creating their own safety programs.
Below is a list of the large hotel chains that operate in the destination and how they are facing the challenge of providing security to their guests in the New Normal.
Grupo Velas’ Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit has received the WTTC Safe Travel Stamp that guarantees travelers from around the world they have adopted hygiene standards and protocols to provide a 100% safe experience for guests, which is established in its 15-page program “Stay Safe with Velas.”
Grand Palladium Resort & Spa. In addition to having the WTTC Safe Travel Stamp, guests of this property will be covered by the “Stay Safe” medical insurance for any contingency that may arise during their stay, directly related to the COVID-19.
AMResorts® established the 360 Degree Quality, Safety, and Hygiene “CleanComplete Verification” program at its 48 properties throughout Europe and America, including Mexico. In the Riviera Nayarit, the Dreams Villamagna and Reflect Nuevo Vallarta hotels have adopted this program.
Villa Group. The preventive measures the Villa La Estancia Resort has taken have earned it the Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council, giving travelers confidence when choosing between Nuevo Vallarta all inclusive resorts.
Partnerships and health programs
Chains such as the Spanish Barceló Hotel Group, which owns the Occidental Nuevo Vallarta hotel in the Riviera Nayarit, launched the “We Care About You,” a plan of post-COVID-19 measures to reinforce the protection of its clients, employees and suppliers.
The Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, which in the Riviera Nayarit represents the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, has partnered with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, the global division of Johns Hopkins Medicine, to validate its global health and safety program, “Lead With Care.”
Iberostar Hotels & Resorts and the hotel Iberostar Selection Playa Mita in the Riviera Nayarit launched its own Medical Advisory Board to address the COVID-19, which includes experts in public health and safety in the tourism sector. The new disinfection and sanitation protocols have been verified by SGS, a world leader in inspection, verification, analysis, and certification.
RCD Hotels-Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta. In addition to the procedures, protocols, and preventive measures established by global organizations, the Hard Rock Hotel, an All Inclusive Experience, launched the global program Hard Rock SAFE + SOUND, powered by Ecolab.
Marival Group. In addition to operating under the guidelines of the WTTC Safe Travel Stamp, the Marival Emotions, Marival Distinct, and Marival Armony hotels have established a special plan focused on specific actions that comply with official policies and procedures, as well as security and disinfection measures recommended by the WHO.
Marriott International. The chain launched the multi-dimensional Marriott Global Cleaning Council program to raise the standards of hygiene, norms, and behavior at each of its properties, including The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort and W Punta de Mita. The Council is headed by Ray Bennett, global director of operations for the hotel group.
Paradise Village. With its program “Paradise Village, Because We Care,” Paradise Village Nuevo Vallarta closely follows protocols set by the World Health Organization and local, state, and federal authorities regarding the evolution of the Coronavirus in the region. It’s aimed at guests and staff members, plus they also have a flexible reservation policy.
RIU Hotels & Resorts. The RIU Post-COVID-19 Manual created by RIU Hoteles & Resorts—which includes the Riu Palace Pacífico, Riu Jalisco, and Riu Vallarta in the Riviera Nayarit—encompasses 17 protocols created by the chain in collaboration with the consulting firm Preverisk, establishing security measures to give maximum peace of mind to customers.
Grupo Vidanta. The hotel group created a Sanitization Department that established a new comprehensive health and safety program called “Extraordinary Standards,” which aims to reinforce and perfect its strict cleaning procedures at all its resorts.
