STREET CLOSURE HOURS ANNOUNCED FOR HALF MARATHON

Street Closure Hours Announced for Half Marathon
  • The streets will be closed from 6:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will include different areas of Nuevo Vallarta, the El Tigre Golf Course and the Flamingos tourist development.

Orderliness is just one of the traits that continue to position the Riviera Nayarit Half Marathon as one of the most popular events in Mexico, the United States and Canada. Towards that end, the event organizers wish to inform local citizens and businesses on the street closure hours so they can take whatever measures necessary to continue with their day.

Arturo García Ruíz Velasco, director of the Riviera Nayarit Half Marathon, has announced the closures will occur on November 23rd between the hours of 6:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. and will affect roadways in Nuevo Vallarta, the El Tigre Golf Course and the Flamingos tourist development.

“We ask the citizens of the area to leave for work early that day and take whatever measures necessary to do so,” he commented. “Just 15 minutes early to work would really avoid chaos. The same goes for those who need to leave the area. We want to make sure the closures create the least amount of discomfort possible.”

Municipal and state transit authorities will be coordinating the street closures, which will include the following: the exit at Km 6 will be closed from 6:45 a.m. to 7 a.m.; from Km 6 through Km 9.6 from 7:10 a.m. to 8 a.m.; from Km 9.6 to Km 14 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; from Km 14 to Km 15.5 from 7:40 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; and finally from Km 10 to the finish line, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“We are helping to distribute this information to the media since they have the reach we need to inform the citizenship. We’ve asked their help in circulating the details so everything runs smoothly,” said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, or AIMS, is the entity that validates and certifies the distance to ensure it meets world standards. They also guarantee the athletes will be well hydrated and safe, as well as prevent any traffic accidents.

This year they expect the participation of 1,000 runners from the Mexican Republic, as well as tourists from Canada and the United States.

Both the Mexican Federation of Athletic Associations and the International Athletic Association have endorsed the Riviera Nayarit Half Marathon.

“The promotion of sporting events such as the Riviera Nayarit Half Marathon gives our destination wider recognition thanks to the many possibilities and services it offers for events,” said Murphy. “We invite everyone to join us to cheer on the runners!”
