The Riviera Nayarit present at the “Mexico’s Tourist Destinations” Certification Program PotenTur 2020

  • Over the course of 17 weeks (from July through November), 530 travel agents became specialists in the country’s tourist destinations, saving the best for last with Mexico’s Pacific Treasure.

The Riviera Nayarit continues to strengthen its presence in the domestic market, joining innovative projects, such as the “Mexico’s Tourist Destinations” Certification Program, organized by PotenTur University and focused exclusively on travel agents.

Over the course of 17 weeks (from July to November), 530 travel agents became specialists in the country’s tourist destinations, saving the Riviera Nayarit as the “best for last” via a live broadcast carried out on social networks that received more than 2,000 impressions.

After the conclusion of the certification course, the project ratified its success with an on-site event: Its First Awards Ceremony and Graduation of the National Platform of Innovative Tourism Projects PotenTur, held from November 29th to December 2nd in the city of Guanajuato, where 100 travel agents received their certificates and awards.

The Riviera Nayarit CVB was also present at this activity, along with the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo CVB, the Acapulco Trust, the Manzanillo Trust, the Ah Chihuahua! Trust, and the Tourism office from Texmelucan, Puebla, as well as a group of domestic wholesalers.

Promotion in the domestic market

Participating destinations showcased their tourism offerings over the course of the event’s four days. In the case of Riviera Nayarit, an exclusive dynamic destination presentation was held on Monday, December 1st for 100 travel agents from Mexico City, Morelia, Aguascalientes, Monterrey, Puebla, Leon, Irapuato, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, and Guadalajara.

“The domestic market has always been important for the Riviera Nayarit thanks to the excellent land connectivity. However, the current health emergency caused by the COVID-19 makes the domestic market even more relevant. This trend has us focusing even more on this market, especially since the domestic traveler that once headed overseas is now looking to travel within Mexico and, in general, has a higher purchasing power to do so, choosing the best destinations, hotels, attractions, etc.,” said Marc Murphy, managing director for the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).

It’s great for the Riviera Nayarit to participate in this type of events, he added, mainly because it allows us to get closer to travel agents and, by extension, to the organizers—in this case PotenTur—to show it’s possible to carry out face-to-face events in a responsible way, following all the sanitary protocols established by Mexico’s Federal Ministry of Health.
