Passenger arrivals by air to the Riviera Nayarit are increasing
- In October, the number of national and international flights arriving in the region more than doubled compared to September.
- Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico confirmed that in October there is an upturn in the arrival of foreign tourists to the Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit.
A total of 234 national and international flights will be arriving at Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit as of October 8, 2020, via the “Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz” International Airport, more than doubling the arrival of tourists to the region with respect to last September.
Data from the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) confirm that in the week of October 8-14 alone, 37 new flights will arrive from the United States—Dallas, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles, California—, as well as from Mexican cities including Tijuana, Guadalajara, San Luis Potosi, Monterrey, and Mexico City.
More flights from the USA
In the United States, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and United Airlines increased their flights and frequencies: American from Dallas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix; Alaska from Seattle, Portland, and San Diego; and United with a flight from Newark, New Jersey, with a frequency on Saturdays.
In addition, Southwest Airlines is expected to begin operating its flight from Phoenix on October 8, flying from Thursdays to Wednesdays.
The national airlines are coming into their own, and this week will also see an increase in the services of Magnicharter, Aerolitoral, Aeromar, Viva Aerobus, Volaris, and Aeroméxico.
Canadian Airlines
In addition, Canadian airlines are also gradually resuming their services. This week West Jet resumes operations to the region with a flight from Calgary, Alberta, with two flights on Saturdays. In addition, ultra-low-cost carrier Swoop is scheduled to restart its flight from Edmonton starting October 25.
“This is definitely good news for our destination, for the whole region. The fact that more airlines are flying here, and the airlines that were already operating since July continue to increase their frequencies, is a ray of hope. This is in addition to the sanitary protocols that GAP has implemented at the Vallarta-Nayarit airport, which guarantee the health care of the passengers,” said Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).
Below is a list of the airlines that have restarted their flights to the Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit region until October, as well as the number of flights:
