Over 500 Children Enjoyed The 4th Riviera Nayarit Children’s Fishing Tournament
- There was plenty of fishing and happy kids at the festival organized by the Bahía de Banderas Fishing Club, the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB).
Over 500 children accompanied by their family members participated in the 4thRiviera Nayarit Children’s Fishing Tournament that took place on Sunday, April 29th at the Marina Riviera Nayarit.
This event was organized in honor of Children’s Day by the Bahía de Banderas Fishing Club together with the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB).
The activities began at 8 a.m. on the marina’s docks, where the little ones had great fun participating in the fishing tournament—some for the very first time. Every participant received fishing equipment, event t-shirts, and buckets for their catches of the day.
The competition ended at 11 a.m., and once weighed the fish were returned to the ocean, as one of the highlights of the event is its eco-friendly character.
A fun-filled festival was held during the tournament with lots of activities including face painting, a drawing area, games, and piñatas. The children also enjoyed free fresh fruit beverages, sandwiches, and, of course, the traditional bolos filled with candy.
The organizing committee presided the awards ceremony, including Eulogio López Rodríguez, President of the Bahía de Banderas Fishing Club and Secretary David Zaragoza; Jesús Carmona Jiménez, President of the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB); and Silvia Duarte, Groups and Events Manager for the Riviera Nayarit CVB, among others.
Club President Eulogio López Rodríguez thanked the sponsors that year after year offer their support, making the event possible.
“Our goal is to make kids happy with a family-oriented event,” he said. “We try to raise awareness about the family values that start at home and extend them during the gathering; we also want to encourage respect for nature, because even though this is a fishing tournament, the catches are all returned. We try to make sure there are more prizes every year, from bicycles to tablets, fishing gear, equipment for marine and water sports, and more.”
The tournament was capped by the awards ceremony, which was truly exciting for the little ones, as they received everything from fishing tackle to electronic tablets, balls, buggies, and even bicycles.
Special guests to the event included the children and staff from the DIF office in Tepic, as well as the Nayarit Down’s Football Team from Tepic, who are national champions in their category and are preparing to represent Mexico in the Swiss world championships.
The festivities continued with a Disney show and characters that invited all the youngsters to come dance with them.
Thus, the Bahía de Banderas Fishing Club, the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) celebrated the children on their special day, with the support of the Government of the State of Nayarit via the Tourism Promotion Trust (Fiprotur).
