Gastronomy: The Driving Force Behind the Revival of International Tourism

According to a statement made by Fernando González Ortega, president of the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association, during the inauguration of the Vallarta-Nayarit Gastronómica event, the gastronomy of the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta is the driving force behind the region’s revival of international tourism.

“We are sowing the seeds so that Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit can reap the rewards,” said González just seconds before the official inauguration at the Village Paradise Hotel in Nuevo Vallarta. “Both the agreements that have been reached as well as the joint efforts to move forward despite the economic crisis have been very beneficial.”

These types of events highlight the joint efforts of the Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit convention and visitors’ bureaus plus the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB), as they serve to showcase the cultural riches of the region.

The governments of Nayarit and Jalisco, headed by Roberto Sandoval and Aristóteles Sandoval, have also been key players, as together they fully back the Vallarta Nayarit, Live it to believe it campaign with actions. There are 105 businesses from Nayarit participating with over 500 quality regional products, which will be highlighted during the show cooking events.

It is important to note that these events will be taking place in the Bay and not in other locations around the country, which serves to position the region as one of the most important tourism centers on a national level.

In fact, the president of the Hotel and Motel Association as well as the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust and Chef Ignacio Cadena pointed out that promoting the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta as a unique destination strongly fosters the region’s development and welfare.

“These are all positive reasons that serve to recuperate the lost international market,” said Cadena. “This is cause for joy and increased confidence for the future.”

The event was presided over by important figures from the tourism, hotel, business and commerce sectors.
Marc Murphy, Managing Director for the Riviera Nayarit CVB, emphasized the social role played by this type of seminars, where the participation of students from different public and private universities, hotel professionals, restaurants, the gastronomy and the sponsors all come together to promote the region.
