The Riviera Nayarit celebrates Pride Month

  • Mexico’s Pacific Treasure celebrates Pride Month, dressing up in rainbow colors to show its support for the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Riviera Nayarit stands out for its tourism offer for the LGBTQ+ market, with unmatched quality and luxury in hotel infrastructure, gastronomy, events, and nightlife.

The Riviera Nayarit is a perfect destination for the LGBTQ+ market—one of the fastest-growing segments in the tourism industry worldwide—thanks to its infrastructure, high quality and luxury, the diversity of its coastal villages, and its renowned inclusiveness and warmth towards visitors.

June 28 marks International LGBTQ+ Pride Day (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Queer), or more simply, Gay Pride when thousands of people will take to the streets to demand respect for their rights and a stop to discrimination and homophobia.

“The Riviera Nayarit dresses up in rainbows for Pride Month to show its support for the LGBTQ+ community,” said Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit CVB.

He added that LGBTQ+ tourism is a dynamic segment with constant growth and high purchasing power. A growing number of destinations seek to attract this segment, as it is key to the revitalization of tourism. According to international research, LGBTQ+ tourists will be the first to resume their travel routines as soon as the world opens back up.

In that sense, Riviera Nayarit has positioned itself as a competitive destination for this sector as part of its market diversification. It has excelled in its inclusion efforts and tourism offerings, such as infrastructure, gastronomic variety, quality, and luxury.

“In recent years, we have concentrated on organic Public Relations activities, with no major campaigns, but with excellent results. We recently entered into an alliance with the Unión Nacional de Empresarios Turísticos LGBT A.C. (National Union of LGBT Tourist Entrepreneurs). (UNET), with a focus on promoting and selling our destination among the groups that make up that association,” added Marc Murphy.

An example of the above is the recognition regularly obtained by properties and businesses that offer services for the community, mentioned below:

+ In 2018, The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort won the Gay Travel Award as the “World’s Friendliest LGBT+ Beach Resort.”

+ Hard Rock Hotel is Out Now certified, indicating comprehensive market management.

+ The W hotel brand is also very attuned to the LGBT+ segment making the W Punta de Mita another excellent lodging option for this niche.

+ Other gay-friendly hotels include Imanta, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, and One & Only Mandarina.

+ Sayulita and San Pancho are two cosmopolitan and inclusive micro-destinations, very friendly to this segment.

Inclusive Weddings in the Riviera Nayarit

Nayarit joined the Mexican states open to same-sex marriages in 2015, following the approval of the local congress to modify the Civil Code. Since then, same-sex couples can marry in the Riviera Nayarit and the entire state without applying for legal protection (amparo).

There are currently more than 40 hotels located in the Riviera Nayarit’s micro-destinations, including Nuevo Vallarta, Flamingos, Bucerías, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Punta de Mita, and Sayulita, among others, that offer a complete range of services for that special moment.
