The Riviera Nayarit focuses on LGBT+ tourism
- The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex community accounts for one of the fastest growing segments within the tourism industry worldwide, with a notable impact on destination economies.
As part of its market diversification strategy, the Riviera Nayarit was a special guest at the launch of the LGBT+ tourism campaign in the city of Oaxaca, Oaxaca, which took place during a press conference organized by the National Union of LGBT Tourism Entrepreneurs A.C. (UNET).
The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) seeks to strengthen the Destination’s position within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex segment via actions such as these, showcasing its inclusivity initiatives and tourism offerings, such as infrastructure, gastronomic variety, quality and luxury.
During the campaign’s presentation, the Riviera Nayarit and its tourism providers were acknowledged as being non-discriminatory and providing the best experiences for the LGBT+ community, as is the case of The St. Regis Punta Mita and the Tuna Blanca restaurant.
Juan Antonio Arellano, president of UNET LGBT—a network of companies committed to the development of economic and social activities that promote non-discrimination—mentioned that this segment is one of the fastest growing within the tourism industry and has a notable impact on destination economies.
“Two international campaigns will be presented to promote destinations and companies that support non-discrimination policies and are actively working to promote quality LGBT tourism. Biosecurity represents a very important point for us, that’s why the places we’re promoting today have well-established protocols, which offer travelers certainty when visiting them. The Riviera Nayarit is the destination we’ve all been waiting for,” he said.
A market with great economic potential
In addition to offering unique experiences thanks to its beautiful beaches, cultural richness, gastronomy, and world-class services, the Riviera Nayarit is known as an inclusive destination, and has already received international recognition in this area.
The acceptance of the LGBT+ community in recent years has been decisive for the development of a tourism offer; businesses open to this community are in great demand since these tourists are looking for places where they can embark on exciting experiences, as well as having an active nightlife, rich culinary offerings, and cultural attractions.
Furthermore, a window of opportunity has opened since 2015 with the legalization of egalitarian weddings in the state of Nayarit, which has gradually allowed the positioning of the segment, as well as its niches.
MORE INFO:
According to data issued by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, some 180 million LGBT+ tourists traveled worldwide each year, representing 10% of the total volume of international tourists. The community generated around 185 billion dollars a year in its activities.
In the case of Mexico, the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) reported that an average of 3.5 million tourists from this sector arrive in the country each year. Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism indicated that the average expenditure of this segment is 1,550 USD, which is almost double that of the rest of the vacationers, who spend approximately 780 USD on a trip.
This community likes its luxury. LGBT+ tourists prefer tourist destinations that offer exclusive services, and therefore tend to spend more on their trips.
The Riviera Nayarit is a safe destination. Hotels, restaurants, and tourist establishments are following all the health protocols established by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Health and operating at the allowed capacities. Access to the beaches is limited. Be a responsible tourist: wear your mask and keep your distance.
