The Riviera Nayarit, where the whales sing and fall in love

  • The Luxury and Nature in Mexico’s Pacific Treasure are on full display for thousands of viewers in a recent episode of James Currie’s A Wild Connection.

“There are few animals on earth as mysterious and charismatic as humpback whales. The fact that many hundreds migrate down to Mexico’s Pacific coast each year belies the fact that we nearly eliminated them from our planet.”

So says the introduction to A Wild Connection’s new program focusing on the Riviera Nayarit, “Song of the Whale,” presented by Nikon, with a third episode that recently aired last Sunday, September 6.

Famous host and wildlife expert James Currie traveled a few months ago with the AWC crew and whale ecotourism guide Javier Álvarez to the idyllic coast of Mexico’s Pacific Treasure to delve into the mysteries of these aquatic giants and their deep connection with humans.

It is known that male humpback whales sing the longest and most complex songs of the animal kingdom, which consist of a series of whistles, shrieks, and deep calls, divided into “verses” sung in a specific order. These can last up to half an hour, as presented in this 26-minute program.

Nature and a unique culture

Although the haunting whale songs are the main focus of the documentary, there are other important aspects of the destination’s amazing biodiversity on display, including the Islas Marietas, Punta de Mita, and their surroundings. The result was one of the most extraordinary works in recent times.

Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), stated the destination’s luxury and nature offer is absolutely relevant to its international positioning.

“Productions such as AWC’s ‘Song of the Whale’ are the result of the promotional work done by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) with the purpose of amplifying the positioning of the destination through its unique culture and nature,” he commented.
