Mexico charmed by “Nayarit Enamora” and the Riviera Nayarit

  • Sanborn’s Regional Festival in Mexico City will host Nayarit’s gastronomy, culture, and traditions during the month of August; a culinary pop-up in Mexico City’s W hotel and the “Wixárika Landscapes” expo are also on tap.

There’s no doubt the Riviera Nayarit charms and Nayarit will win your heart—the latter summed up in the phrase “Nayarit Enamora.” Proof positive is the destination’s participation in the Nayarit Regional Festival celebrated during August in Mexico City and presented by the Government of the State of Nayarit with the goal of sharing the state’s traditions and culinary riches.

During the event the Riviera Nayarit CVB undertook different activations via their Public Relations; Sales and Marketing; and Groups and Events offices to promote Nayarit’s gastronomy, culture, and traditions together with the valuable presence of Wixárika artisans Modesto Rivera Lemus and Rogelio Benítez.

Culinary Pop-Up
The “appetizer” was served on August 6 with the opening of a Culinary Pop-Up at the W Hotel Mexico City. Chef Betty Vázquez and mixologist Israel Díaz were in charge of this culinary experience; together they created a menu that fuses the best of Nayarit’s traditional cuisine with innovative mixology.

Their four-course menu offers some of coast’s most iconic dishes enhanced by chef Betty Vázquez’s personal touch: Curried Fish Ceviche followed by Shrimp Aguachile with Ginger and Poblano Chile, then Oyster Sopes and Shrimp Turnovers.
To complement this experience, Israel Díaz blended the intensity of the traditional raicilla spirit with whiskey, mescal, and gin to create original cocktails including: Bésame mucho (ginger, basil, lime, and angostura bitters); the Riviera Mule (raicilla, ginger beer, lime, ginger syrup, and cascabel chile); The Sinner (rye whiskey, martini rosso, and pumpkin syrup with clove and lime); and the Oaxaca in the bar (mescal, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, lime, and mint).

These culinary delights will be available through August 21 at the W Mexico City located at the Paseo de la Reforma exit in the elegant neighborhood of Polanco.

Nayarit Festival in Sanborns
The Government of Nayarit and the state’s Ministry of Tourism presented the “Nayarit Enamora” Regional Festival on August 7, where Nayarit’s rich culinary tradition will be on display in the more than 180 chain restaurants owned by Sanborns throughout Mexico and Central America.

Chef Betty Vázquez is the face of the festival; she shared that the 11 dishes being presented at the restaurants during the August event capture the essence of Nayarit’s gastronomy.
The inauguration event took place at Plaza Loreto with the participation of folkloric and indigenous dancers from Nayarit, along with the Wixárika artisans.

Wixárika Landscapes
An additional cultural activation was held on August 8 at the Soumaya Museum during the “Wixárika Landscapes” exhibit by Nayarit artist Jorge Partido Brizo. The presentation consisted of 12 oil paintings on canvas reflecting the faces, landscapes, lives, movement, and, above all, the light and color of the indigenous race.

Although the expo was only up for one day, it was enough to display works of art that went beyond the ordinary: images of the men and women who live among the hills, rivers, and mountaintops in this region of Nayarit.

Marc Murphy, managing director of the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) and the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), stressed the importance of these different activations and the resulting reinforcement of the alliances with the media, public relations agencies, airlines, and meeting planners. This was the case with the more than 20 media that attended the three events, among them: El Universal; Reforma’s De Viaje andBuena Mesa; Expansión; Animal Gourmet; Food & Travel; Sibarita de El Financiero; Travel Report, and LADEVI, to mention but a few.
