Riviera Nayarit promotional tour stops in Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay
- The Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta’s brands received a boost in Latin America.
The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust (Fidetur) led a work tour through the main cities in Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay as part of the promotional efforts tied to the arrival of the new Copa Airlines flight from Panama; the team reached over 250 travel agents. The strategic plan was carried out together with Copa Airlines to reach the airline’s top agencies and its vacation pool.
The first city on the list was Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the economic capital of Bolivia, where they held a training seminar for 80 retail travel agents who were very interested in this new Riviera Nayarit-Puerto Vallarta destination. The team also met with the Copa Vacations Bolivia pool made up of the top wholesale agencies; additionally, they visited Cuarta Dimensión, Tropical Tours, and Universal Tours, all well-positioned agencies within the Bolivian market.
Asunción, Paraguay, was the second city on the list. Here the team trained 80 retail agents via a destination presentation, as well as another 30 sales professionals from wholesaler Maral Turismo, part of the Copa Vacations pool. The Paraguay market has responded very well to travel agency sales, which cater to the upper-middle to premium level segments as well as destination weddings.
The last event was held in Montenegro, Uruguay with 60 travel advisors. The advisors were trained on the Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit offers together with Copa Airlines; they were extremely interested in water sports such as surfing and kitesurfing, even mentioning the yearly Wind Festival that takes place in the Riviera Nayarit.
Bolivia and Paraguay are landlocked countries, leading them to seek beach destinations. Many of the agencies’ clients had visited Cancun and the Caribbean multiple times and were looking for an alternative vacation destination. This is the first time a promotional strategy has been put into place in these two emerging countries, with travel agencies in Asunción taking the lead in sales of the Copa Airlines’ flight.
By the same token, several hotels in the Riviera Nayarit—Hard Rock Vallarta, Grand Palladium, Royal Decameron and RIU (Vallarta, Jalisco and Palace Pacífico) to mention but a few—already have a presence in these countries through their rep agencies.
