2015 National Conservation Week In San Blas

  • Several artistic, sports and cultural activities with the theme of “Protected Natural Areas, natural solutions against climate change” will take place in order to encourage environmental education in the Riviera Nayarit.

San Blas celebrates National Conservation Week from October 26-31, an occasion organized by the National Commission or Protected National Areas (Conanp, by its acronym in Spanish) in different areas of the country where there are Protected National Areas (ANP, by its acronym in Spanish), as is the case with Nayarit.

“It’s always important to promote environmental awareness in the younger generations so we can preserve the natural areas that are such an important part of the Destination’s tourist attractions,” commented Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau.

A series of artistic, sports and cultural activities will be taking place with the theme of “Protected Natural Areas, natural solutions against climate change” in order to encourage environmental education in the Riviera Nayarit.

“San Blas has an amazing biodiversity of birds, other species and marine life, as well as mangroves, which are bastions against climate change,” added Murphy.

The focus is primarily on children and teens in order to broaden their knowledge of the region’s flora and fauna, though adults will also be participating in this series of family-oriented events.

There will be photography expos, documentaries, arts and crafts, theater productions, talent shows, bicycle tours, bird watching excursions, sea turtle releases and an eco-fair in an attempt to encourage awareness in the younger generations in an attractive manner.

The majority of the activities will take place in the main plaza of San Blas, with some on the beach and in the ecotourism areas. The hours vary from morning till afternoon, depending on the activity.
