World Travel Market Latin America: B2B Showcase Extraordinaire

  • The Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta secured negotiations with new tour operators (TOs) focused on different markets that are ideal for the region, as well as with current commercial partners.

The latest edition of the World Travel Market Latin America (WTM) took place at the end of April at the Expo Center Norte in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It was the ideal showcase for the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta—with the full support of the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB)—to firm up productive negotiations in their quest for diversifying markets.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust (Fidetur) worked with several Brazilian tourism operators (TOs), both new as well as current business partners.

The business meetings included conversations with Schultz, a TO with 15 affiliates in Brazil’s main cities and 13 thousand retailers at its disposal.

Other meetings included the tour operator TREND Operadora, which is looking to develop destinations in Mexico other than Cancun—an opportunity in the making for Vallarta-Nayarit. The same can be said of Litoral Verde Viagens, which is focused on ecotourism and is also in search of diversifying its markets.

Raidho Tour Operator, which specializes in luxury, weddings and honeymoons, expressed a desire to set packages for the region. Queensberry Viagens, a Virtuoso TO, is interested in Virtuoso destinations such as the Riviera Nayarit.

The wide gamut of tourism attractions in the region has stirred up a lot of interest in Brazil. The LGBT market was also included in the negotiations, specifically with Tudotrip, a TO that specializes in gay-friendly destinations.

The 2015 event had 21% more participants that the previous year. Over 15 thousand of the most important executives interested in the travel industry were present and there were nearly 3,000 pre-scheduled business meetings between buyers and exhibitors. The 43rd Braztoa Business Event was held simultaneously.
