The Riviera Nayarit at the V EntreAmigos Environmental Fair

  • Organized under the slogan “A Leap for Change”, the fair was an outstanding success thanks to a program that included workshops, bird watching, environmental projects, ecological activities, and more.

Fun and learning converged to raise awareness about environmental care and a better quality of life at the V Environmental Fair hosted by the Entre Amigos San Pancho Community Center and held from April 19 to 23. The Riviera Nayarit played a prominent role in this year’s event.

Organized under the slogan “A Leap for Change,” the event was an outstanding success. It featured a program that included workshops, bird watching, ecological projects, and conferences, all in the context of Earth Day, observed last Thursday, April 22.

The participating children were from schools in and around San Pancho and enjoyed free activities that included recreational games, productive workshops, puppet shows, and much more.

The Riviera Nayarit Visitors and Convention Bureau (CVB) and its Tourism Development area participated on Friday, April 23, with playful activities focused on “What is waste?” It reached more than one hundred people, including children, teachers, and supervisors, who learned about the importance of separating garbage at home by following the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Environmental commitment

Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit CVB, highlighted the importance of these types of activities to raise awareness about environmental issues, especially among the younger generations:

“I want to reiterate our commitment to create and raise awareness about the importance of caring for our environment, and how our actions and attitudes can bring about change in everyday life, encouraging a healthier life for ourselves and the world we live in,” he said.

A leap for change

Abraham Vivas, director of the Environmental Fair, indicated that they had to adapt the format for this event due to the pandemic. “Normally the Environmental Fair would be held in the Plaza del Sol, which is the town’s main square, but due to the epidemic we decided to hold it in the EntreAmigos center and adapt it to the protocols established by the Department of Health,” he said.

He added that they reached the greatest possible number of people in a more organized and extended way with this format. In the past, the fair only lasted one day and was open to the general public. This new format extended the program to a whole week and allowed one day exclusively for groups. Some 300 children and several adults participated in workshops during the five days of the fair, as some of these children went with their parents, said Abraham Vivas.

“The theme of this year’s fair is ‘A Leap for Change,’ which refers to how the pandemic pushed us a bit to the edge of the ‘cliff,’ and there was no other option but to jump. The objective of this Environmental Fair was also to pay tribute to Earth Day. Although in past years we held this event in March, this year, the Universe conspired to make it happen on this date. The truth is that it went very well, the children were delighted and participated a lot. The organizers made a huge effort together with all the organizations that helped us carry out this event so that the children could benefit from this learning experience,” he pointed out.
