The Riviera Nayarit keeps its beaches safe and clean
- The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) are promoting actions to maintain the beaches of the Riviera Nayarit, in the municipality of Banderas Bay, in optimal conditions.
Keeping the beaches clean is everyone’s responsibility, especially during this rainy season when the rivers and streams carry a large amount of tree debris, branches, leaves, etc., and garbage and household waste left on the streets. This type of trash includes plastic, glass, aluminum cans, and Styrofoam containers, along with flip-flops, clothes, diapers, masks, and even automobile tires.
The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) organized the Beach Cleaning Network together with the Iberostar Playa Mita, Occidental Nuevo Vallarta, and Riu Vallarta hotels to counteract this situation. Along with the Bucerias Angels groups, they took on the task of cleaning different stretches of the coast from Nuevo Vallarta to Punta de Mita, doing their “bit” to preserve our natural resources.
A partnership between hotels and civil associations
On World Cleanup Day, celebrated every year on September 18, personnel from the Iberostar Playa Mita hotel cleaned the northwest section of the beach in Higuera Blanca. Twenty-two people participated in this activity that spanned more than 600 meters, collecting the waste found on the beach and surrounding areas. The accumulated trash included Styrofoam containers, metals, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, polypropylene ropes, plastic hoses and buckets, auto parts and construction material, even chairs and car tires.
That same day, 20 employees from the Occidental Nuevo Vallarta hotel cleaned a stretch of the Nuevo Vallarta South beach. The team picked up a total of 45 bags of garbage (60 kg.) that included Styrofoam containers, plastic bottles, bottle caps, household waste (shoes, clothes, etc.), packaging waste, and polyurethane foam, among others. There was also a large amount of tree debris washed in by the streams and rivers.
The CVB also responded to an invitation from the association Ángeles de Bucerías to carry out a cleanup at Bucerías Centro beach, where a total of 10 sacks of garbage, equivalent to 500 kg, were collected. In addition to the Ángeles, representatives from the Municipal Human Rights Commission (CMDH) and the Regional Confederation of Mexican Workers (CROM) collaborated in this activity, as did residents of Bucerías. A total of 22 people participated in the event.
Finally, the RIU Vallarta hotel also joined this excellent cleaning crusade on September 27 with 20 employees, who collected more than 50 kilos of trees debris, cigarette butts, and plastics.
THE FACTS:
Since 2014 the Riviera Nayarit has had a Beach Cleanup Network (RLP), which has carried out more than 700 actions along the entire tourist corridor. The RLP currently consists of many volunteers and groups from different segments of society, including NGOs, hotels, private companies, authorities, and schools.
The Network is coordinated by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association. The Nayarit State Government also lends its support via the Tourism Promotion Trust (Fiprotur).
The Riviera Nayarit is a safe destination. Our hotels, restaurants, and tourist establishments follow all the health protocols established by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Health and operate at the allowed capacities. Access to the beaches is limited. Be a responsible tourist: wear your mask and keep your distance.
