Riviera Nayarit celebrates World Tourism Day
- This year’s theme is “Tourism for Inclusive Growth,” which means “no one is left behind” and ensures that the benefits generated from tourism are distributed fairly.
The Riviera Nayarit participated in the celebration of World Tourism Day, a date that the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has observed every September 27 since 1980. This year’s theme is “Tourism for Inclusive Growth,” meaning “no one is left behind.”
The UNWTO points out that, in a year in which the social and economic effects of a pandemic generated by Covid-19 are still keenly felt—especially in vulnerable and marginalized communities—it is time to pave the way for tourism to recover, generating growth and opportunities. However, the benefits generated by this activity must permeate local communities fairly and equitably.
When referring to tourism destinations and companies, the UNWTO points out that ideas and commitments are nothing if they are not implemented. World Tourism Day is an opportunity for the various tourism stakeholders to seek ways to improve their inclusiveness, share their good practices, and celebrate their achievements while urging tourists to travel responsibly.
Green economy in the Riviera Nayarit
For the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), an excellent way to address this call is by the application of the green economy to tourism. This incentive aims to contribute to the reactivation of the global economy, the conservation and creation of jobs, and the protection of vulnerable groups and promote sustainable and inclusive growth.
The destination contributes to the cultural preservation and sustainable growth of its native community, which has been linked to the Riviera Nayarit brand since its creation 14 years ago. In this sense, the culture of the indigenous Wixárika people is an integral part of the experience that Riviera Nayarit offers to the world. This culture is part of its identity and has become a vital part of its tourism promotion. Representatives of the native peoples have traveled abroad with the CVB to various destinations that host important tourism fairs, including Madrid, Berlin, London, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and the United States. They have also been a presence at the Tianguis Turísticos (Tourism Tianguis) held in Mexico.
Furthermore, our hotels and tourism developments consistently implement the following sustainability models:
+ Contribution to regional economic development (creation of sources of employment, application of gender equity policies).
+ Support for vulnerable communities (school adoption programs, support for homes), among others.
+ Saving and efficient use of water (through aerators in faucets, replacing conventional toilets with low-flush toilets).
+ Conservation and efficient use of energy (substitution of energy-saving light bulbs and LEDs, use of inverter technology, renewable energies), fuels (local purchases, use of electric vehicles).
+ Waste separation, reuse, and recycling (reuse of glass bottles as decorative items, glasses or vases, collection of cigarette butts for transformation into cellulose pulp, donation of organic waste for fattening farm animals).
OF NOTE:
World Tourism Day, celebrated each year on September 27, is observed worldwide and promotes awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political, and economic value and the contribution the sector can make towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Riviera Nayarit is a safe destination. Our hotels, restaurants, and tourist establishments follow all the health protocols established by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Health and operate at the allowed capacities.
