The Riviera Nayarit welcomes an innovative meetings tourism training event
- The Meetings & Events Institute will take place from September 23-28 at the Hard Rock hotel in Nuevo Vallarta with the goal of strengthening the tourism industry’s competitive edge.
From September 23-28, the Riviera Nayarit will host the most innovative meetings tourism training event, the 2019 Meetings & Events Institute, sponsored by ConvencioneS Latinoamérica magazine.
Endorsed by SITE Mexico, the event offers tourism and meetings industry professionals, students, and docents the opportunity to choose a specialty for certification via the programs related to the meetings industry.
The program for the 2019 Meetings & Events Institute—held at Nuevo Vallarta’s Hard Rock hotel—includes four simultaneous specialties: CIS (Certified Incentive Specialist); CMS (Certified Meetings Specialist); CCM (Certified in Congress Management); and CES (acronym in Spanish for Certified in Sustainable Events).
“We want industry professionals to be able to choose what they need to raise their level of competitiveness in the tourism market,” said Fernando Compeán. He is currently the director of Meetings Mexico and a recognized leader with more than 43 years in the meetings industry.
Concerning the host destination, he said: “The Riviera Nayarit has made enormous strides in our industry as one of Mexico’s meetings and conventions destinations with the strongest offer. They have more rooms, more meetings space, and the gorgeous beaches of the Mexican Pacific.”
Keynote speakers
Among the speakers sharing their wealth of knowledge during this training event is Fernando Compeán himself, the meetings professional with the most specialized certifications in the world: CITE, CMM, CMP, CITP, CIS, CMS, and CCM. He’s a pioneer in Mexico’s meetings industry and the first Latin American to become a Certified Incentive and Travel Executive through SITE Global. Compeán is also one of five professionals in the world to boast the three certifications offered by this association specializing in incentive programs and travel. In 1995 he founded ConvencioneS magazine, which he continues to direct.
Other keynote speakers include Guadalupe Villaseñor Méndez, CIS, with more than 30 years in tourism; María Guadalupe Robles León (CCM, CMS, CIS, CMP, CASE), co-founder of Grupo Global Event, an events and tourism services operator; David Díaz Escalante (CMS, CIS CITP), founder of Procesa Event Management & Incentives, specializing in the organization and logistics for meetings, incentives, and events; Alejandra Hernández Zita (CIS, SEPC, CMS), creator and instructor of the Mexico Sustainable Events Certificate (CES); and José Manuel de Lorea (RSE, CCM), founding director of TRAVELMEX.

###
The continual promotion of the Riviera Nayarit both on a national and international level has yielded excellent results, thanks to the efforts of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association to offer all visitors an enjoyable stay. The aforementioned is possible thanks to the support of the Government of the State of Nayarit via the Tourism Promotion Trust (Fiprotur).
