Successful showing for the Riviera Nayarit at Smart Meeting California

  • It was an opportunity for the destination to show off its excellent infrastructure and the quality of its meetings and events services.

The Riviera Nayarit had a successful showing at Smart Meeting California, a specialty event for meeting planners held at the end of February in Los Angeles, California, with the participation of buyers, hotels, and destinations.

A group from the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) was at the event, where they held face-to-face pre-booked appointments with 15 professionals from the MICE segment (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), some of whom already had programs in the region in mind.

Besides the appointments there were networking meetings with hotel representatives and planners from the United States and other participating countries, as well as lectures with prestigious speakers who shared tips on industry strategies and tendencies.

In this respect, Marc Murphy, director of the Riviera Nayarit CVB, indicated the participation of the Riviera Nayarit in events like the Smart Meetings California is an opportunity to showcase the excellent infrastructure and quality of meetings services offered by the destination.

“We have an excellent meetings infrastructure in the region, and we need to take advantage of it,” he said. “We want attendees to be able to enjoy the Riviera Nayarit’s attractions and natural beauty and we hope to welcome thousands of meetings over the next few years!”

Martin Bright, CEO of Smart Meetings, saie: “Our industry is still all about face-to-face relationships—the more technology and smartphones we have, the more we need this type of events to connect and get to know each other before we send a group of 200 people to any hotel.”

MORE INFO:
The meetings segment tends to generate more revenue than the average leisure segment because of the type of services it books. Incentive travel has a very high expenditure and seeks luxury hotels.
In Mexico, the meetings segment is an important part of the economy, responsible for 1.5% of the national GDP or $25 million in yearly revenue.
