Double Promotional Activity By The Riviera Nayarit In Chicago
- This is the second most important market in the United States for this tourism corridor, therefore eight travel agents from the city were invited on a FAM trip and several of the Destination’s hotels participated in the IMEX America 2015 fair to strengthen the Meetings Segment.
Chicago is the second city of origin for tourists from the United States to the Riviera Nayarit, with the state of Illinois occupying the same spot, which is why this October there were two promotional activities that targeted this region.
“Chicago, Illinois, has always been good to us, which is why every year we strive to strengthen the direct flight and the other two flights with stopovers that we have to and from this city,” commented Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).
A FAM trip was organized for eight travel agents in the company of Adolfo Salamanca, Deputy Director of the Mexico Tourism Board in Chicago. This activity was undertaken as part of the Joint Promotional Campaign with Puerto Vallarta. As with every trip of this kind there were site inspections to the hotels and the agents experienced the top attractions in both destinations.
According to information gathered from the Riviera Nayarit CVB’s Barometer we know 9% of the total visitors from the US during the first semester of 2015 were from Chicago, second only to San Francisco. The stats by states are very similar, as Illinois was the state of origin for 9.1% of visitors, just behind California.
The Riviera Nayarit and its hotels participated in IMEX America 2015, an itinerant event that was celebrated this year in Chicago. It’s considered the most important event for the Meetings Industry in the United States.
There were over 3,000 exhibitors present in addition to the same number of attending buyers. There the team completed a total of 80 business appointments with international meeting planners.
With this participation, the MICE segment (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) received a strong boost at the end of the year and the start of high season for this tourist region.
