Meetings Tourism Receives A Boost At ICOMEX 2014
- Over 150 business meetings were held between domestic and international meeting planners and hoteliers from the Riviera Nayarit.
As they do every year to reinforce the meetings industry in the region, a group of hotels accompanied by the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta convention and visitors bureaus participated in Latin America’s top meetings, conventions and incentives expo, ICOMEX 2014, now in its 6th year.
ICOMEX takes place in Mexico City’s World Trade Center and it’s where experts in the meetings industry meet with the top buyers in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) sector in order generate networks and close new business.
The total number of meetings that took place between the destination and hotels with domestic and international meeting planners numbered over 150. The expo took place November 5-7.
The intent to purchase during the event was 36%; sales with a six months closing date were at 53% and those three months out at 32%. According to statistics from the Federal Tourism Board, Mexico increased its annual MICE revenue by $6.2 million USD.
The event had over 5 thousand attendees, about 200 of which were exhibitors and the rest buyers from the private enterprise sector; government agencies; domestic and international chambers and associations; religious groups and sports federations. The guest country this year was France.
Although this particular activity was not part of the Vallarta-Nayarit joint campaign, both destinations worked together during the event. Participating hotels included the Crown Paradise, Hard Rock Hotel, Velas Resorts, Villa Group, Melia, Grand Palladium, Friendly Vallarta and Bel Air. There were also representatives from the International Convention Center.
