Riviera Nayarit is back on its feet after the passage of hurricane “Nora”

  • The destination’s hotels and tourist services are operating without damage. We continue to maintain heightened monitoring in the hotel zone.

Following the passage of hurricane “Nora” through the states of Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Sinaloa, Mexico, on Saturday, August 28, the Riviera Nayarit’s hotel and tourism services are operating without significant damage, according to Marc Murphy, Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau.

So far, he added, damage to the tourist corridor (comprising more than 300 km of coastline) and to hotel establishments is minimal, with the exception of fallen trees and garbage on the beaches due to the rains and strong waves. This, according to a report by the hotel associations of the municipalities of Bahía de Banderas, Compostela, and San Blas.

However, in following preventive measures, there is ongoing coordination with the Civil Protection authorities of the three levels of government and the auxiliary authorities of the nearby towns.

However, we are maintaining heightened monitoring in the hotel zone. All the hotels are being kept abreast of the situation and have been following precautionary measures since the start.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) informed that “Nora” continued its journey on Sunday towards the country’s northwest region, where it made landfall in Sinaloa, degrading to a tropical storm.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The CVB recommends extreme precaution and attention to the reports issued by the Civil Protection authorities:

+ Tourists are urged to comply with the red beach flag warning.

+ Until further notice, the access to rivers and streams is suspended.

+ Any emergency should be reported immediately to the 911 emergency line.

The Riviera Nayarit is a safe destination. Our hotels, restaurants, and tourist establishments follow all the health protocols established by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Health and operate at the allowed capacities. Access to the beaches is limited. Be a responsible tourist: wear your mask and keep your distance.
