Today we’re going to take you to one of the Riviera Nayarit’s most popular micro-destinations: San Pancho, also known as the Cultural Capital of Mexico’s Pacific Treasure. Here you’ll find murals adorning the streets of this little boho-chic village, just waiting to be included in your selfies and friend pics, plus plenty of yummy eateries, live music, and a fun vibe. Read on to learn a little more for your next visit to San Pancho.
Surf and Yoga
People travel here from all over Mexico and around the world with the sole intention of surfing the waves and making friends. Then there are those who want to add yoga in with their surfing, served with a side of healthy food. In San Pancho you’ll find plenty of accommodations for solo travelers, couples, or friend groups, as well as pet-friendly places. There’s something for every budget!
A Pristine Beach
San Pancho’s wide, pristine beach is a privileged place for visitors to the Riviera Nayarit. It’s known as a turtle sanctuary and a surfing destination, and the sunsets are epic: the sun always sets over the water, so there’s no landscape obstructing the view. This is open ocean, and the waves can get a little aggressive—we highly recommend heading to the southern end of the beach, where the water is calmer.
Social Responsibility
The Entre Amigos program offers language classes and ecological workshops for kids and local citizens. Some of these courses are led by travelers who seek to give back to the community through social responsibility programs. This has given a boost to San Pancho’s social welfare and is an attraction for visitors who wish to give back.
Local and International Gastronomy
Travelers will find an ample variety of local and international food in San Pancho, mostly focused on seafood. One standout: the famous aguachiles de colores at Las Palmas restaurant, a collection of spicy, colorful dishes made with fresh shrimp. No morning would be complete without an avocado smoothie from the organic bistro at the Cielo Rojo hotel, not to mention the rest of its amazing vegan, gluten-free, and organic menu. Marías is another option for something a little more traditional. Dinner can be had nearby at Ola Rica or the Cervecería San Pancho, the place to go for a sandwich or a burger paired with a cold artisanal beer. After dinner, the best digestif in town is a good mezcal at La Baba del Diablo, home of its eponymous spirits.
Art for Everyone
Local art in San Pancho ranges from street murals and the vibrant décor of the micro-destination itself to galleries and stands where you can buy hand-crafted souvenirs made by local Huichol artists.
