Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta celebrate after being chosen to host the Tianguis Turistico

The joint proposal submitted by these two destinations is promising a complete reengineering of the hospitality industry in Mexico

The joint work of Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, together with the strong impulse of the State Governments of Jalisco and Nayarit, as well as the private sector and the different areas of society in the region are reaping the rewards of their efforts after being designated as the venue of the 2012 Tianguis Turistico.
“We’d already received positive feedback from some members of the Reviewing Committee after last Thursday’s presentation. They told us that besides the proposal, they valued the widespread support and decided participation of the society. And it was precisely that joint effort, with everyone working together, what allowed us to be chosen as the venue for this event.”
“We’d like to thank the determination of everyone that believed in us, as well as to the 18 states that decided to participate, because this competition makes everyone stronger in times when we must work jointly for the benefit of this industry and this country. We’ve been chosen to host the Tianguis, but that doesn’t mean that this event belongs to Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit; it belongs to all of Mexico, and this is the brand that we must all support”, said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Riviera Nayarit.
When we presented our proposal to the Reviewing Committee last week, we introduced four important reasons that allowed the Tourism Secretariat (SECTUR) and the Mexican Council for the Promotion of Tourism (CPTM), headed by Gloria Guevara Manzo to make the decision.
Firstly, this will be a venue that has the support of two destinations and two State Governments. The location of the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center guarantees a 10-minute drive to all the required services (airport, bus station, luxury lodging, business hotels, gastronomy, etc).
We also have a comprehensive restructuring project proposed for the Tianguis Turistico. This will be different from previous years, in which buyers would not visit the states’ exposition area. We will create Thematic Pavilions that will make all participants explore the novelties that each state will present at this forum.
Finally, we also have the support by all the private sector and the different social organizations in both destinations, which will create a “self-sustainable” edition of the Tianguis Turistico: neither the SECTUR nor the CPTM will have to invest to have Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit hosting this event.
“We’ve done an arduous and coordinated work with both states. I wish to thank the work of Edwin Hernandez Quintero, Secretary of Tourism of Nayarit and Aurelio Lopez Rocha, Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco, who headed this project with great determination. I’d also like to thank our sister destination Puerto Vallarta and the International Convention Center. We’ve always said this: together we can do better. It’s important to support the Mexico brand and that all sectors of the touristic industry in Mexico work together”, concluded Murphy.

I think there are a lot of misconceptions about Mexico regarding safety and tourism. This is my third time back in Mexico and honestly, I feel more safe here than I do back home in Seattle. Im currently in Puerto Vallarta, staying at Oasis hostel (www.oasishostel.com or feel free to check them out on facebook), and although its a 15 minutes away from Centro, I never have any concerns when walking "home". I find that the locals in this country are extremely friendly and helpful. I think Mexico is an absolutely gorgeous place to visit, its a shame that more people dont explore this beautiful country.

For me is perhaps one of the most important single events happening in the history of Puerto Vallarta and now with Riviera Nayarit it would even be more attractive. I am sure this Tianguis Turistico will enhance , contribute and prove Bahia de Banderas on top of other famous tourist destinations. My warmest welcome to this type of events. Now is just about to see how soon people from Puerto Vallarta and Nayarit working together get ready before the event. This is a priority.
