Wellness Sabbatical: Work and chill from the Riviera Nayarit!
- Following worldwide trends, the destination’s hotels are creating “workations” and “schoolcations” aimed at travelers who want to blend work and play in lesser-trafficked areas.
As the world begins to open up to the “New Normal,” more people are leaving the city for less crowded places in search of nature and well-being. The trend is to travel, but not just for leisure, but in search of a place to work, concentrate, and even study.
This new style, which combines work and rest in a prolonged stay (more than three weeks), is already being called a “Wellness Sabbatical” according to the Global Wellness Trends Report 2020.
Some hotels in the Riviera Nayarit are following the trend and also incorporating “Workations” and “Schoolcations,” which are basically working and studying, but from an “office” or a “classroom” set up in paradise.
“The proposal from the Riviera Nayarit hotels responds to the travelers’ need for a change of scenery; it’s no longer necessary to be trapped in an office or a small apartment, now workers and students can fulfill their tasks from anywhere in the world. There’s no doubt ‘digital nomadism’ is here to stay,” said Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).
The following hotels have jumped on the trend:
To celebrate its upcoming inauguration scheduled for September 1st, Conrad Punta de Mita is offering the “WFP: Work from Paradise” and “LFP: Learn from Paradise” packages, specifically designed to meet the needs of today’s traveler and inspired by the emerging “Workation” travel trend. But it’s not all work: after their arduous Zoom meetings, guests can enjoy all the resort’s amenities including its three pools, open-air spa with temazcal, and access to the Litibú golf course.
Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, a luxury all-inclusive resort, offers an extended-stay program for families or groups of friends who want to extend their vacation by a couple of weeks. Guests taking advantage of this program will have access to private transportation from the airport, a welcome bottle of champagne, more comfortable rooms, massages, photo sessions, yoga, Pilates, and cooking classes, as well as different alternatives for the kids.
“Classroom” set up in paradise
Meanwhile, the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita launched the “Knowledge for All Seasons” program, a fun distance-learning alternative. Their “Schoolcations” program aims to promote education through travel, so it includes technology, art classes, culture, history, and after-school sports, in addition to time spent enjoying the hotel’s common areas, such as swimming pools and restaurants. It’s a great experience for both kids and their parents.
Last but not least, The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is another pioneer in introducing the new “Workation” program, which combines work and vacation in the same trip. It’s a way for the hotel to offer its guests to take care of the details associated with remote work, so that they can focus on their business and enjoy any downtime to the fullest. The program includes a wide variety of options, including fully-equipped offices, personalized menus by the executive chef, as well as professional services to assist with homeschooling.
Remember, Mexico’s Pacific Treasure will be here when you’re ready to travel.
