Team MTY Cuadra Reflect wins the VIII Riviera Nayarit Cup

  • For three days Mexico’s Pacific Treasure and La Patrona Polo & Equestrian Club became the country’s capital of polo with nine intense matches served with a side of music, fashion, art, and the destination’s most colorful offer.

The Riviera Nayarit served once again as the glittering host for the VIII Riviera Nayarit Cup during an exciting weekend at La Patrona Polo & Equestrian Club in San Pancho, Nayarit.

The MTY Cuadra Reflect team—Isaac Sepúlveda, Valerio Aguilar, Sofía Landa, and Tere Landa (the latter were the only women players)—took home the cup, playing a masterful game against the Destino-GCI team (Miguel Gómez de Parada, Octavio Lamas, Dante Munguía, and Carlos Hernández, the youngest player in the tournament) with a final score of 10-8.

Third place went to the Necedad La Perla-Grand Velas team, made up of Juan Pablo Gallegos, Rodrigo Anaya, Luis Pérez Ochoa, and Joel Acosta, who beat the Royal Mesh-Centinela/Bolongo team, made up of Adrián Cuevas, Juan Carlos Galán, Benito Hernández, and Manolo Calvo, with a final score of 12 to 5.

Fifth and sixth places were battled out by the Agua Alta-Nayarit Enamora/Hacienda San Pancho team with Noé Ramos (subbing for the injured Manuel Matos Gil), Guillermo Jiménez, Diego González, and Martín Vidrio, and the San Jorge-Riviera Nayarit team, comprised of Jorge Suárez, Rodrigo Cobos, Rodolfo Ramos, and brothers José Alfonso and Emiliano Ayala. The latter team won that match.

Sofía Landa of team Monterrey received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, while the filly “Bonanza,” owned by Carlos Hernández, received the award for Best Playing Pony (BPP).

The teams played a total of nine games using over 100 ponies; there were also groom competitions against the clock, gastronomy, cocktails, music, art, handicrafts, and plenty of fun over the course of the three-day competition.

“The players, horses, grooms, sponsors, media, friends, family, and staff—all of them are what creates the magic of polo.
