Aquiles Chávez and his new “Gastronomic Adventure” are in the Riviera Nayarit
- The famous chef and his culinary partners began the second season of their Sony Channel México reality show; the second episode was recorded in its entirety in the destination and will air Friday, November 15th.
On his voyage to rediscover the flavors of Mexico, chef Aquiles Chávez made a stop in the Riviera Nayarit to record episode two of his reality show, “Gastronomic Adventures,” which airs on Fridays on Sony Channel México.
This second episode, where he works together with chef Betty Vázquez, will first air on Friday, November 15, at 10 p.m., then again on November 22nd at 1:10 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and on November 29th at 12:40 p.m. and 5:35 p.m.
“Gastronomic Adventure,” hosted and produced by Chávez, consists of six episodes recorded in different locations with different guest chefs helping him rediscover some of the country’s most traditional dishes.
Cooking with Betty Vázquez
The first episode, transmitted on November 8th, was recorded in Guadalajara at chef Poncho Cadena’s Hueso restaurant. Afterwards, production moved to San Blas, Nayarit, where chef Betty Vázquez was waiting to take the host to some of the most iconic spots in port so he could savor the traditional dishes in this region of Nayarit.
For one week, both the cooks and the production crew visited attractions including the historic center and its traditional plaza; the Contaduría with its spectacular view of the mangroves and the Pacific; the famous dock at San Blas; and the old wharf. They also joined the port’s fishermen for a day of angling, visited a mango plantation, and toured shrimp and oyster farms. Their visit ended with a dinner at the El Delfín restaurant in the Garza Canela hotel.
“The plot is this: to understand why the dish is eaten, how it’s eaten, how it’s made, and who makes it. The dish is the detonator for everything that happens on the show,” said Aquiles Chávez during an interview for a domestic medium.
Betty Vázquez took to social media to celebrate her reunion with her friend:
“This is how friends catch up when they get together. In my land and my paradise @sanblasrivieranayarit. We had a lot of fun in this second chapter of #AventuraGastronómicaMx Thank you @aquileschavez @riviera_nayarit @sanblasriviranayarit for making this challenge possible!”

In addition to the Riviera Nayarit, Aquiles Chávez visited Guadalajara, Chihuahua, Veracruz, Chiapas, and the Riviera Nayarit accompanied by friends and colleagues including Poncho Cadena, Daniel Ovadía, Erik Guerrero, Martha Zepeda, and Carlos Gaytán.
He said these trips have not only allowed him to view Mexican gastronomy from another perspective but also to bond with his friends: the chef had the opportunity to share more time with them, as each of the six episodes of this second season took from four to five days to record.
In this manner, the gastronomy of Nayarit—an important part of the state’s tourist strategy—is once again on everyone’s mind.
