Nuevo Vallarta receives Silver EarthCheck recertification for 2019

  • Since 2016, the Fraccionamiento Turístico Náutico, the gateway to the Riviera Nayarit, has been the leader within a select group of sustainable tourist destinations that have been certified under this international standard.

The Riviera Nayarit has become one of the most environmentally-friendly tourist destinations in the nation, as evidenced by the 2019 recertification of the Fraccionamiento Turístico Nuevo Vallarta with the Silver EarthCheck badge.

Following an audit where they measured the sustainability and environmental strategies and plans, the destination proved once again that it complied with Earthcheck’s international indicators and parameters and obtained the certification for the fourth year in a row.

“This demonstrates the commitment of Riviera Nayarit, Banderas Bay, and the Government of the State of Nayarit to the preservation of its cultural heritage and natural environment,” said Jesús Carmona, president of the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) and the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).

He added that, by committing to sustainability, the Riviera Nayarit is not only part of a leading group of communities in environmental management, but it also has the ability to better manage the resources available to the community and its visitors. The benefits are tangible to the conscious traveler who is increasingly concerned about their surroundings.

The president of the Banderas Bay hoteliers highlighted the teamwork that was carried out on a daily basis to maintain the Silver EarthCheck designation, which involved implementing an environmental management program, continuous improvement, and good environmental habits as of December 2014. The area obtained the certification for the first time in 2016.

He stressed the support and commitment for the project from FIBBA and the Nuevo Vallarta Neighborhood Association, as well as the Government of the State of Nayarit. None of this would have been possible without their support.
