CONOCER certifies 70 housekeepers from hotels associated with the Riviera Nayarit
- The entity awarded Workplace Competency certificates that met the EC0043 standard for “Housekeeping and Room Preparation” to hotel staff who demonstrated the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
“Two things can happen when a tourist arrives at a hotel: they can fall in love with what they see or they can be disappointed, especially when they arrive in their room; because at least for me and for many other people as well, the most important part of the hotel is my room. That’s why the work you do is so important.”
Such was the message conveyed by Julio Barrera Zaragoza, general director of the evaluation entity, SILA, during which he highlighted the work carried out on a daily basis by the 70 participating housekeepers from the Riviera Nayarit’s associated hotels. The awarded personnel received a certificate of workplace competency that met the EC0043 standard for “Housekeeping and Room Preparation” issued by CONOCER.

The awards were handed out to the personnel on October 21st at the Reflect Nuevo Vallarta Hotel in the presence of a group of human resources managers, department heads, and training managers from the participating hotels. These included the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit; Marival Emotions, Marival Distinct, and Marival Armony; Hard Rock Vallarta; Occidental Nuevo Vallarta; Paradise Village; Reflect Nuevo Vallarta; Royal Decameron Complex; Cactus Inn; Las Palomas Nuevo Vallarta; Vallarta Garden; W Punta de Mita; and The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort.

The ceremony was headed by Martha Sandoval, human resources manager for Reflect Nuevo Vallarta; Nelly Sánchez, coordinator for the AHMBB’s Tourism Culture Committee; and Julio Barrera Zaragoza, general director of SILA Consulting and Certifications.
Congratulatory messages soon followed, all of which applauded the work done by the housekeepers, a job that is generally not recognized as much as it should be considering its importance.
“For many, this certification might be just one more piece of paper, but I can assure you that you’ve taken an important step in your career. I don’t want you to remain housekeepers, I want your next goal to be Housekeeping Supervisor. The enthusiasm with which you obtained this certification leads me to believe that you can do it,” said Marta Sandoval.
Nelly Sánchez, coordinator for the AHMBB’s Tourism Culture Committee, not only highlighted the huge effort the housekeepers put into obtaining the certification, but also recognized the difficulty of following certain standards when one has their own way of doing things. “Changing and leaving old habits behind to relearn something is very commendable; it’s like embarking on a continuation of your career,” she added.
The group of housekeepers who received the awards were evaluated for a little over three months by SILA.

These certificates of Workplace Competency are part of the commitment the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) has with its member properties via its Safety and Human Resources committee in coordination with the Department of Member Services and Tourism Development Programs of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), in order to strengthen and raise the level of services and cultural tourism in the Riviera Nayarit.
