Brazilian tourists are getting closer to the Riviera Nayarit

  • The Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit Joint Promotional Campaign together with Copa Airlines and Aeroméxico visited five cities in this South American country between September 30thand October 4th.
The Riviera Nayarit is sparing no effort in its quest to bring potential markets to the destination, training some 350 Brazilian travel agents and wholesalers on the region’s tourism product between September 30th and October 4th.

During this time, a team comprised of members from the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust (Fidetur)—in alliance with Copa Airlines and Aeroméxico—visited Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia (Federal District) Porto Alegre, and Sao Paulo, the top five most important economic markets of this South American country.


Every presentation was very well attended, and the participants showed interest in learning more about the attractions and hotel infrastructure offered by Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit. The events included representatives from some of the most important hotel chains in both destinations including AM Resorts, Decameron, Hoteles Riu, Marriott International (W Punta de Mita and St. Regis Punta Mita), and Hard Rock.

Meetings with wholesalers
Two dinners were also held in Porto Alegre and Sao Paulo with executives and associates of Brazil’s top wholesalers and representatives from Copa Airlines, American Airlines, and Aeroméxico.


Executives attending the Porto Alegre dinner from UNE World Viagems e Turismo—one of the city’s most important wholesalers—, included Commercial Director Fabian Saraiva; Marketing and PR Directlro Sabrina Saraiva; and Commercial Manager Daniela Ulhoa Martin. Together they analyzed the marketing strategies they will use to attract potential clients.

and associates of Brazil’s top wholesalers.
Porto Alegre is a huge industrial center in the southern part of Brazil and has a strategic location in the Mercosur thanks to its proximity to Buenos Aires, Asuncion, Rosario, and Cordoba. The city also connects to Panama via Copa Airlines.


In Sao Paulo, epresentatives from the CVB and Fidetur met with top executives from wholesalers Agaxtur and Queensberry (product leaders in luxury tourism); Flot Viagens; Diversa Turismo; TGK Travel; Flytour Viagens; 55 Destinos; New Age; Orinter; and Gigante CVC Corp. They were joined by Lucio Yamashita Fuji, regional manager in South America for Aeroméxico; Catia Frias, from American Airlines; and Cássio Takano, corporate sales manager for Copa Airlines Brazil. The dinner included a presentation with news of the latest hotel investments expected in the Riviera Nayarit over the short and medium terms. The attendees were impressed with the importance the destination is attaining as an investment leader in Mexico, especially in the luxury segment.

Sao Paulo is the biggest city in the southern hemisphere and the largest city in Brazil. It’s also considered the most important cultural, economic, and cultural hub thanks to its role as one of Latin America’s main financial centers.

Touristic Diplomacy
The Diplomatic Representation of Mexico in Brazil also joined the caravan in accordance with the Mexican Government’s new provisions regarding the promotion of tourism. This meant the presence of the Deputy General Consul in Rio de Janeiro, Juan José Salgado Saavedra, and Lilia Paola Ureña, Consul for Economic Affairs. 
The event in Brasilia was attended by Luis Ángel Domínguez Brito, Minister and head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a representative of the Mexican Ambassador to Brazil, and Marco Antonio Huerta, Chief Councilor for Commercial Affairs and Tourism. In Sao Paulo, Dr. Raúl Bolaños-Cacho, Consul General, and Luis Gerardo Hernández, Deputy Consul, attended the meeting, who, in addition to offering a welcome message to the attendees, provided detailed information on the new provisions of the Federal Government regarding tourism promotion.
After the tour, all the participants agreed the events had been a resounding success and had made an excellent impression on the Brazilian travel agents, who generally tend to gravitate towards selling the Mexican Caribbean. As a result of the team effort, one of the top wholesalers in Brasilia has already sold groups to the Riviera Nayarit for the month of November. 
Riviera Nayarit reasserts its status as a first-class tourist development, an example of the growing and successful tourism industry in Mexico. The destination works vigorously to attain its goal of attracting more and better tourism to Mexico’s Pacific Treasure with the support of the Government of the State of Nayarit via the Tourism Promotion Trust (Fiprotur).
