The Riviera Nayarit incentivizes the arrival of tourists from Central America

  • Eight travel agents from Costa Rica enjoyed a FAM trip to the destination to experience its attractions firsthand, reinforcing the sales strategy for the Copa Airlines’ flight to the region.

A group of eight retail travel agents from Costa Rica convened by wholesaler Obelisko and supported by Copa Airlines visited the Riviera Nayarit to experience this beach destination known for its eclectic charm, lush nature, and luxurious hospitality.

Obelisko is a very well positioned and prestigious agency within the Costa Rican travel market; it’s part of the Copa Vacations program, ensuring the agency has highly competitive rates and benefits linked to its loyalty program.

The support of Copa Airlines, local hotels, DMCs, and tour operators was essential for the Costa Rican agents to experience the Riviera Nayarit’s main attractions including the Islas Marietas and the Magical Town of Sayulita, as well as take on several site inspections to various hotels.

The general perception of the destination was excellent; the agents had had a completely different concept of the region from what they actually saw. During their visit they appreciated the contrast of the South Sierra Madre and Sierra de Vallejo peaks with the intense blue of the Pacific Ocean—it was a very welcome surprise, especially concerning the top-notch hotel infrastructure that dominates this side of the Pacific.
BACKGROUND
The Riviera Nayarit continues to pique the interest of wholesale and retail agents in Central and South America. In 2018 a total of 360 professionals visited the destination, most of them inspired by the start of the Copa Airlines flight from Panama and, based on the FAM trips that have been taking place in the first half of 2019, the number will probably increase.

Copa Airlines began service between Panama City and Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit on Sunday, December 16, 2019—this is its fifth destination in Mexico, with two weekly flights to the Lic. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport. The trip allows passengers from that continent to connect with this region of the Mexican Pacific via the Hub of the Americas in Panama City. Passengers from Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit are benefitting from the connectivity offered by the airline that includes 79 additional destinations in 32 countries in North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) reaffirm their commitment to the strategic promotion of the destination, pursuing areas of opportunity and consolidating new markets to increase the number of incoming tourists, together with the support of the Government of the State of Nayarit via the Tourism Promotion Trust (Fiprotur).
