- The competition takes place on
Malpaso beach in the Magical Town of Sayulita on May 25-26.
The
14th Sayulita Surf Fishing Tournament in Riviera Nayarit is all set
for May 25-26, 2019 under the aegis of the Nayarit Surf Fishing Club on Malpaso
beach in the Magical Town of Sayulita.
The
goal is to encourage the sport of surf fishing with an eco-conscience, which is
why this competition follows “catch and release” rules that help the
preservation of marine species.
Mario
Alberto Real Bernal, president of the Nayarit Surf Fishing Club, announced the
tournament is open to all ages and genders including kids, since this is a
family event.
The
activity begins on Saturday, May 25th with the arrival of
participants from several states in the Mexican Republic and areas adjacent to
Sayulita; an afternoon event is scheduled for them. The competition begins on
Sunday, May 26th at 6:00 a.m. ending at 2:00 p.m.
Details
This year the competition is focused on
10 species: sea bass, croaker fish, sawfish, mero fish, bull fish, roosterfish,
skipjack fish, dorado fish and sting fish. The first five species must have a
minimum weight of 2.3 pounds (1 kg) and the other five a minimum weight of 4.6
pounds (2 kg).
The per participant limit for catches is five (5), out
of which the judges will choose the heaviest.
Registration
is $100.00 MXN on Saturday, May 25th for the traditional—albeit
optional— “Warmup” from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and the accumulated total will
be given to the winner. The cost for the first 100 people on Sunday, May 2th is
$300.00 MXN and includes a dri-fit t-shirt.
