The Visitor Profile Surveys conducted by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) held between January and December 2015 indicate, among other things, that the average spend by foreign tourists who visited the Destination increased compared to 2014.
“The good news is the tourists are spending more and are staying longer in the Riviera Nayarit,” commented Marc Murphy, Managing Director for the Riviera Nayarit CVB. “We also discovered a segment with a higher purchasing power that is satisfied with the price of services received, meaning we are a luxury destination that’s well-priced.”
In 2015 the foreign tourist spent US$1,537 during his trip, exceeding the US$1,448 averaged during 2014; in general, tourists spent US$830 in 2015, while in 2014 the expenditure was only US$792; the Mexican visitor maintained the same average expenditure.
The average stay for tourists from 2012 to 2015 continues to increase: in 2012, visitors averaged a little more than five days’ stay. By the end of 2015 the average was nearly seven days.
When asked their opinion as to the price of services in the Destination, 82% of those interviewed indicated they found it Fair/Adequate.
As far as income level of the foreign visitor, it was determined that 54.5% had a yearly income of US$100,000+ per year and 31.4% earned more than US$75,000 per year.
Out of a total of nearly 10 thousand people interviewees 54.4% were Mexican, 23.3% were from the United States, 19.3% were Canadian, 2.2% were British and 0.7% indicated “other nationality.”
