Joint Promotion Heads To Colombia
- Diverse promotional and public relations activities took place with over 300 travel agents and the media, respectively, in the cities of Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Cali and Medellín, the top Colombian cities of origin for tourism to the Destination.
The international Joint Promotional Campaign embarked on by the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta under the aegis of the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) is now in Colombia, an Emerging Market that is already bearing fruit.
Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau, accompanied the Promotions and Public Relations teams to Colombia on this important venture. The Mexican Ambassador in Colombia, Arnulfo Valdivia, and the MTB’s Deputy Manager for Colombia, Omar Macedo, were also present.
Fourteen hotels from both destinations participated in the events, along with nine tour operators and Aeroméxico Airlines.
“It’s important to follow up on the positioning of the region within the Colombian market as it’s one of the main countries of origin in South America for tourism to Mexico, not to mention the cultural exchange that exists between the two countries,” commented Marc Murphy.
The tour began in Bogotá on Monday the 27th. One hundred travel agents took part in the Promotional Seminar; there was also a Press Conference in the Colombian capital for 22 journalists. The following day the Seminar was held in Bucaramanga for 60 travel agents; there were interviews with El Frente magazine and Colmundo Radio, as well.
Eighty travel agents participated in Cali on Wednesday and interviews were held with El Tiempo, Radio Caracol and Diario El País. On Thursday the tour heads to Medellín for interviews with El Colombiano, Egocity – LGBT and Minuto 30, and will hold a Seminar for 80 travel agents.
Thursday night there will be an appreciation cocktail with the owners of tour operator companies, as well as executives from the agencies and Aeroméxico, as the latter has confirmed a daily direct flight from Medellín to Mexico City.
The momentum generated by the flights is key. Aeroméxico currently operates two of eight daily flights from Bogotá to Mexico City.
