The 2015 Oyster Festival Organizing Committee—led by the Fishing and Aquaculture Cooperative for Costa de Chila, Peñita and Boca Ameca, Bucerías Section, together with the support of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau, the municipal authorities and the business owners of Bucerías—invite one and all to celebrate the XV Anniversary of the Oyster Festival.
The date is set for April 12th in order to conclude Easter Week; the event starts at noon at the El Punto beach in Bucerías. This Festival is the biggest and oldest of its kind in the entire country.
As tradition dictates, this year the divers will give away five thousand oysters as well as kilos of fried fish and fresh ceviche in an act of goodwill and gratitude towards the community.
One of the most important events during the Festival is the contest to find the biggest oyster, with the record set just one year ago by a specimen that boasted 22 centimeters in diameter.
Bucerías grows the biggest oysters in the area thanks to the special treatment they give the mollusks; they even have their own closed season so they can reproduce more and better specimens.
The attending cultural activities include the traditional contest to choose the Oyster Queen, as well as music, dancing and lots of fun events for the entire family to enjoy.
The Oyster Festival is of great importance for the destination as it gathers an audience of over six thousand people; this is why the Riviera Nayarit CVB’s Groups and Events Department offers the event organizers its unwavering support to continue positioning it as the biggest, oldest and most important of its kind in Mexico.
