British Visitors To The Riviera Nayarit Increased in 2014

  • According to the results of the Riviera Nayarit CVB’s Visitor Profiles, the British now occupy the 4thplace in number of visitors to the destination after Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The 2014 Annual Tourist Perception Analysis Report by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) offered several statistics that confirmed previous analyses of its natural markets; however, it did highlight that British visitors have surged into 4th place with respect to locations of origin.

The percentages of tourists interviewed in the destination’s hotels throughout 2014 indicate the following origins: Mexico 56.4%, United States 21.9%, Canada 19.3%, England 1.5%, other nationalities 0.4%, Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Brazil 0.1%.

The most outstanding statistic is the appearance of the British in 4thplace in the surveys at 1.5%. The success of the weekly direct flights from Manchester and London is quite evident: there was no percentage for this location of origin from January through April, but from May onward after the flights began it begins grow, ranging from 1.7% all the way to 3.1%. These are very important numbers if we consider that as recently as 2013 they represented a mere .022% of total visitors.

The Mexican citizens interviewed made up 74.7% of arrivals in July; 72.9% in August; and 70.3% in September. This segment remained above the 50% mark for nine months, while it fell below that number for during the first three months of the year.

Visitors from the United States remained fairly consistent throughout the year, maintaining a presence above 12%, with a high in February of 30.4%. The numbers stay above 20% from October through March.

As for the Canadians, they stand out for their ability to increase their presence considerably from November through March in the winter season and are notorious for their absence from May through October. In January, February and March their numbers fluctuate around the 40% mark.

These statistics correspond to the Visitor Profiles obtained via the Riviera Nayarit CVB’s Department of Product Development and Research. There is a 3.4% margin of error and a 95% confidence level.
