The Picturesque Villages of the Riviera Nayarit are preparing for high season: Lo de Marcos, for example, is inaugurating its very own tianguis, or marketplace, offering art and fresh organic produce to attract both tourists and locals.
Starting November 1st through March 28th, every Saturday will see the main street turned into a marketplace from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where people from the different communities around the Riviera Nayarit will be displaying their wares.
The golden rule is that everything must be artisanal, organic, made by hand and prepared using only natural products, seeking to raise the bar on the traditional tianguis. The vendors will be selling food, Huichol art, silver, clothing, accessories, music and much more.
Armando Contreras, one of the organizers, commented on his work together with Claudia Curtis bringing this new project to life. They hope it will be an ongoing event for many years to come.
“We want to attract more people to Lo de Marcos to bring in business and have that income stay in the area,” said Contreras. “People from all over will be here to take part in the marketplace, including Tepic, San Pancho, Sayulita and La Peñita, among others.” For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/LoDeMarcosTianguis.
