A Nautical Extravaganza began in Riviera Nayarit

  • With activity of 10 aquatic disciplines that will be enjoyed March 2-18, competitions started
  • of J24 Class has registered 52 boats in the fleet  ready to set sail from next Monday, as the first class participant of Regatta Copa Mexico
  • 16 oceanic sailboats are already taking part in Vallarta Race, from San Diego to Mexico’s Pacific Treasure

With the depart of 16 Oceanic Sailboats participating in three divisions for the title of Vallarta Race and the arrival of the competitors of the Class J24 in the Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition, this March 2 a real Nautical Extravaganza began in Riviera Nayarit.
After a kickoff party in the San Diego Yatch Club, the crews of 16 oceanic sailboats undertook a race of more than a thousand nautical miles that will end in Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
Tequila, mexican food and mariachi was offered to wish luck to the crews before their departure. This March 2  early hours the Division 3 set sail, with only three ships, and in the rest of competitors where dispatched along the day.
According to the tracker of the competition, up to the closing of this edition 7 crafts already were coming closer to Los Cabos, in the tip of Baja California Peninsula, whereas the most rapid division was still in American waters.
The record of navigation in this competition is three days, eight hours and 52 minutes and it was registered in 2010. Therefore, first arrivals in Riviera Nayarit are expected by  Sunday night.
Regatta Copa Mexico Olympic Edition also started activities the first group of the 1.500 competitors from 26 countries is about to see activity. J24 Class sailors arrived yesterday and are setting their boats ready for the action.
This Saturday boats will be measured and on Sunday a practice regatta has been programmed. The competitions will begin next Monday from 13:30 and the sailboats in this class will be visible from Bucerías, Flamingos, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Nuevo Vallarta, if allowed by weather conditions.
