San Pancho Extends Invite To A Music-Filled Weekend

  • The 18th San Pancho Music Festival will take place from February 23-25 at the Plaza del Sol in this coastal town in the Riviera Nayarit; the Swing Party is on from February 25th through March 4th with some of the best in the genre.

The coastal town of San Francisco, known locally as “San Pancho,” is hosting a weekend music festival with two events to entertain both residents and tourists in the Riviera Nayarit.

The first event is the 18th San Pancho Music Festival 2018, which takes place from February 23-25 in the town’s Plaza del Sol, just across from the parish, with the nightly presentation of regional, national, and international artists from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. There will also be plenty of food and drink for sale, as well as a select number of art and handicrafts.

What started out as a music festival among friends held in the back yard of a North American resident has grown into what’s now one of the top musical events in the region and a valuable cultural event in the Riviera Nayarit that continually attracts new tourists to the area and has a growing number of followers.

By this its 18th anniversary the Festival has significantly contributed to the town’s official designation as Nayarit’s Cultural Center. It also continues to be free to the public thanks to the generosity of the artists and volunteers, as well as donations from the public and friends of the event.

There are chairs available, however, they are on a first come, first served basis, so we recommend bringing your own chairs so you can comfortably enjoy an evening of good music and fun with your family and friends.

The second event is Swing Break Mexico, taking place from February 25th through March 4th in the Riviera Nayarit, and it will get everyone dancing with its slogan: Chiles, Chelas y Charleston (Chile, Beer and Charleston).

There will be different activities over the course of 8 days including dance classes, lots of partying, and adventure, including an intensive Lindy Hop course, surf lessons, a temazcal day, a tour to the Islas Marietas, and another to the petroglyphs in Altavista.

Swing Mexico (SWMX) is in charge of producing the event, which has become the best Swing and Charleston school in all of Mexico. It takes the student from beginner level through intermediate and advanced levels, and all the way to professional dancing as well.

Kevin and Jo, world Lindy Hop champions, will also be participating. The couple travels year round all over the world giving lessons, seminars, and shows. They’ve produced several activations in many world festivals, including the famous and important Herräng Dance Camp. Cracovia22 will be present as well, a collective that develops sociocultural activities that benefit humanity.

Famous dance couples include the aforementioned Kevin and Jo, from the United States; Maxi and Agus, from Argentina; Tim and Ruchi, from the United States and Mexico; and Lalo and Pao, from Mexico. Top bands in the genre include Jacob Sanders, Jonathan Doyle, Swing México Jazz Band yand Los Swingones.
