- Updated information on the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta was shared via a varied combination of activities that reached out to both travel agents and end consumers in Dallas and Houston.
The Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit Joint Promotional Campaign visited the great state of Texas in order to continue positioning both destinations on Texans’ travel radars.
“Texas is the third state of origin in numbers of tourists to the Riviera Nayarit from the United States, which is why we decided to focus our efforts a bit more on the end consumer, since they already know the destination,” said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We sought to persuade them to come see us in a more direct manner without, of course, forgoing visits to the most important travel agencies in the region.”
The first two days in April were spent at the Dallas Travel & Adventure Show, which is open to the traveling public and was attended this year by more than five thousand people looking for their next vacation destination. At least 400 of them approached the booth to ask about offers at both destinations.
Afterwards the team visited agencies in the Dallas area, where they handed out promotional material on the destinations and the hotels. They also hosted a dinner seminar for 60 travel agents. The popularity of the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta in Dallas can be clearly seen in the excellent connectivity that exists via American Airlines.
Once in Houston, the Joint Promotional Campaign held another training seminar for a second group of 60 travel agents. There are also several direct flights from Houston to this area of the Pacific via United and Southwest.
Twenty hoteliers from both destinations attended the events, as did representatives from six wholesalers and two airlines. Patricia Herrera, Deputy Director for the Houston office of the Mexico Tourism Board was also present to lend her support, as was a representative of the Mexican Consulate in Texas.
