Safety Has Been Nayarit’s Number One Tourism Advocate

  • Nayarit has been recognized on a domestic level as one of the safest states in the Republic; the Riviera Nayarit CVB and the hotels in the tourist zone have been able to compete on the world stage thanks to its peaceful atmosphere.

The tourism sector is immensely grateful to Nayarit Governor Roberto Sandoval Castañeda for the peace and safety that has returned once again to this region. It’s because of this that the Destination has been able to position itself on a world stage.

“We must give credit where it is due,” commented Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). “Governor Sandoval’s current administration has been essential in providing what’s become the platform for the CVB and the hotels in the tourist zone to attract tourism to the Destination.”

“Sometimes we forget that just about four years ago the state had the money to invest in tourism promotion but the conditions weren’t ideal,” added Murphy. “And then the governor did the best possible thing he could for us, which is bring about order, thus creating a platform for us to be able to compete with other destinations around the globe.”

Since then, Nayarit hasn’t had a single travel alert in the United States or Canada, the main markets for the Destination.

This past October a meeting was held surrounding the security in the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, spearheaded by the Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay Business Associations and directed by the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC), which, among other things, is the entity that emits travel warnings in the United States.

During the meeting they highlighted Nayarit’s security milestones: in 2014, Nayarit was accorded second place in overall domestic security on behalf of the Centro Nacional de Planeación, Análisis e Información para el Combate de la Delincuencia Organizada (CENAPI). This year, the Institute for Economics and Peace placed Nayarit in first place domestically in the fight against organized crime.

In September of this year, the State District Attorney’s office created the Agencia de Ministerio Público (AMP) with offices in Sayulita in order to bring the public prosecutor to the Riviera Nayarit and keep the people of Nayarit and the visitors to the Destination safe.
