Some 1,200 motorcyclists from around the Mexican Republic will gather at the San Blas Moto Mania 2013 held from November 1st through 3rd.

The festival will take place on the esplanade by the pier in the historic port of San Blas, where according to event organizer, Román Paz Mondragón, a series of performances will be held in a festive environment.

“We want to promote the state and specifically San Blas within the motorcycle touring world,” said Román. “We’ve been promoting this event the whole year long in other states, which means we’ll have riders from Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Colima, Michoacán, Zacatecas and Sonora, among others.”

Headlining the event: the Jalisco Motorcycle Acrobats along with Christian Palafox “El Rasta,” Mexico’s top acrobat.

This gala weekend—filled with exhibition rides, musical performances, stands, food and games—is possible thanks to the support of the State Government, headed by Roberto Sandoval Castañeda.

“Though this event has little to do with the Day of the Dead festivities, it is nonetheless a celebration of the risk associated with biking,” added the organizer. “More importantly, it’s free to the public and a family occasion for all to enjoy our destination’s cuisine and attractions.”

Doris Vázquez González, President of the Hotel and Motel Association of San Blas, stated that, thanks to this event, the port will become an motorcycle “village,” and thanked the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau for their support.

“This weekend has never really been a very busy one because most people go to visit their dead relatives, but Moto Mania has filled up the town,” said Vázquez García. “The economic windfall will benefit restaurants, local businesses, small shops and hotels.”

And, even though turnout has not been measured in the hotels as of yet, there has been an increase in hotel nights from Santiago to Compostela, thus the event is benefitting all tourism service providers.
